In order to bring JA Economics for Success® to every 6th graders we need our parents’ participation and personal experience. Some of our most enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers come from the parents in your community
In the 2018-2019 school year, the MCPS partnership will be transitioning from JA Economics for Success® to the JA Finance Park® program. Following a 13-week program, MCPS 7th graders will visit the JA Finance Park® facility located on the 4th floor of the Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Silver Spring. That makes this year’s 6th graders the lucky group that will get JA two years in a row, building a solid foundation in budgeting, planning, career opportunities, and financial responsibilities.
This year, Sligo Middle School will once again partner with Junior Achievement® (JA) to bring financial literacy education into the classroom of every 6th grader. We are seeking adult volunteers to teach pre-developed, interactive lessons about goal-setting, budgeting, insurance and credit to our 6th graders during their social studies classes.
Junior Achievement® provides volunteers with training and program materials. Volunteers teach with a professional educator in the classroom and receive support from Junior Achievement staff.
There are opportunities to fit everyone’s schedule and JA staff will help you find the class time that meets your specific needs. You can even volunteer in your child’s social studies class! The time commitment is 45 minutes per week for five weeks, during the school day. Sligo Middle School will participate on the following dates: Feb. 16th, 23rd and March 9th, 16th and 23rd.
