Hey Sligo Community! It is time to begin planning the 2016-2017 PTSA year.
Several of our existing board members will be rotating off as of May. Some are moving up to high school. Others must rotate per PTSA by-laws (there are some positions you can only serve once or twice in a row).
We are now looking to fill the empty slots.
We are a PTSA which believes in the power of being transparent and open, and welcome to new perspectives. If you’ve been itching to be a part of our leadership now is your chance! Rest assured that many of our board members and long-time volunteers *will* be returning so you’ll have a lot of help and experience to guide you as a new volunteer.
We also believe that our PTSA would be best served by a diverse group of parents who truly represent the student body and school that we serve. We can only do that if we get volunteers from all parts of the community, however. So please do consider stepping up to be a part of our team.
Unlike the long haul of elementary school, middle school is a quick three years, so do not think you must wait until you’ve “been around a while” join up. Even if you are the parent of an incoming sixth grader, you’ll help us voice parental concerns if you sign on to lead.
We are especially in need of a new treasurer. Scott Leonard has done an AMAZING job the last two years and our financial records are in excellent shape. We are in officially in good standing with the national PTA and the state of MD tax office, which is a big deal and something to celebrate. If you volunteer for treasurer you’d inherit a clean bill of financial health and an orderly set of records, which makes it much easier to hit the ground running as we plan our budget. If you are good with numbers and good with record keeping, you have the skills needed to be treasurer. You do need to be available for a training session in the summer or fall (which can be done online). And you need to attend all of the PTSA meetings each month.
Elections for all positions will take place in May. We’d like to be able to announce a slate of candidates for all positions by our next meeting, on April 12.
